Air-Purifying Plant of the Month March 2026

Kentia: a strong palm for a fresh living environment

March brings the first signs of spring. Temperatures rise, the sun appears more often, and nature slowly starts to awaken. The perfect moment to refresh your indoor space with a new air-purifying plant. That’s why the Air-Purifying Plant of the Month for March is the Kentia palm, also known as Howea forsteriana . A strong palm with long, elegant leaves. A plant that not only brightens your home but also actively contributes to a healthier living environment.

Tropical and healthy properties

The Howea forsteriana originates from Lord Howe Island, a small island between Australia and New Zealand. In its natural habitat, this palm can grow up to 18 metres tall. Indoors, it remains much more compact. In garden centres, you’ll find the Kentia in various sizes, from small to large, so there is always one that fits your space.

One of the main advantages of the Kentia palm is its robust character. It tolerates lower light conditions, handles dry air better than many other palms, and is not too demanding when it comes to watering. This makes it an ideal choice for both experienced plant lovers and beginners. Its graceful, dark green leaves also give the plant a calm, luxurious look.

Like all plants in the Air So Pure range, the Kentia palm is not only beautiful to look at, but also functional. It helps improve the air quality in your home by filtering harmful substances from the air and producing oxygen. Perfect for the living room, study, or even the bedroom.

Care tips for a healthy Kentia

The Kentia is a hardy houseplant that doesn’t require much care. To enjoy your Kentia for even longer, here are some tips for caring for March’s Air-Purifying Plant of the Month.

  • Light: Both a shady spot and a lighter spot are fine for the Kentia. Make sure that there is not too much direct sunlight on the spot, as this can burn the leaves.
  • Water: Water the Kentia regularly and make sure the soil does not become too soggy. Is your palm taller than one meter? Then give it 1.5 to 2 liters of water per week. Is your palm shorter than one meter? Then give it about 1 to 1.5 liters of water per week. Start with small amounts of water per watering, so you can check how much water your palm needs.
  • Humidity: The Kentia is a tropical plant and likes higher humidity. Therefore, spray the leaves with water from time to time to keep them healthy, clean, and moist.
  • Repotting: In principle you (almost) do not need to repot the Kentia. These palms grow slowly and repotting creates a risk of damage.
  • Nutrition: Feed the Kentia palm once a month in spring and summer. This promotes the growth and health of this air-purifying houseplant.
